Florida Leadership Conference 2009
Tampa, FL
September 25th & 26th

The Theta Chi chapter took 4 students to the Florida Leadership conference at the University of South Florida in Tampa. Students attended workshops that dealt with leadership.  Some of the workshops included Team Building, Empowering Members, Setting Goals, and Ethics.  The fun activities for these workshops included using team efforts to build a matching Lego giraffe and to make a perfect square while blindfolded.  Below are things that the students took away from the workshops.

"Leadership is good people, doing good things, for the right reason."

Leadership requires cooperation, feedback, and fluent goal setting.

There can only be one leader leading a group and all other leaders must turn to followers and supporters.  Without the support and guidance of other people, a leader cannot lead effectively.

The leadership conference allowed everyone the opportunity to get together and share information to make us better members, better people, better citizens.  It was also nice to see and interact with members who are good friends.  An awesome time was had by all.

Phi Theta Kappa International Convention 2009
Grapevine, Texas (near Dallas)
April 15th-18th

The Theta Chi chapter took 5 students and 1 student from the Beta Beta Gamma chapter to Texas for the international conventions.  We participated in Honors in Action where we helped the city of Grapevine improve it's public parks through painting, building repair, and cleaning up.  The convention continued with leadership workshops and 2 renowned speakers, Robert Kennedy Jr. and Fareed Zakaria.
