University of Miami’s Gordon Center Contracts to Develop Model Paramedic Program

Pensacola Junior College has entered into a year and half contract to design and develop a competency-based, simulation-enhanced, clinical skills curriculum for EMT and Paramedic students enrolled at PJC.  The goal is to create a curriculum that will serve as a state model.  The Mary Smart Simulation Center will coordinate the project with the college’s instructional programs and the Kennedy Prehospital and Emergency Healthcare Division of the Gordon Center for Research in Medical Education at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.  The curriculum will be consistent with the latest evidence in instructional design, including providing immediate constructive feedback, opportunities for repetitive practice, and mastery learning.  It will utilize the most innovative advanced educational technology.  Instruments will be developed to measure the effectiveness and impact of the clinical skills curriculum using the Kirkpatrick criteria for program evaluation.
