
The Mary Smart Simulation Center is
committed to using high fidelity patient simulation to strengthen to the
patient care skills of healthcare providers. The Center is collaborating
with its hospital partners to meet specific training needs. The
activities being considered include annual skills updating, critical
incident scenarios, re-entry nurse training, critical care scenarios,
and neonatal scenarios.
The Center also offers continuing professional development courses for
nurses, first responders, and other healthcare professionals. These
opportunities include workshops in ACLS, PALS, Care of the Patient with
COPD, Care of the Patient with Congested Heart, Care of the Patient with
Pulmonary Embolus, Critical Care Nursing, Perioperative Nursing and
more.
In addition to healthcare providers, the Center aims to serve colleges
and faculty members in the region through educator workshops on setting
up patient simulation labs, integrating simulation into the curriculum,
using patient simulation as a clinical teaching strategy, and
debriefing. These workshops will continue to be taught by faculty from
around the country as well as by Center personnel. The workshops offered
in the Center recently include the Simulation as a Teaching Tool:
Instructor Course offered by the Center for Medical Simulation, and the
certificate in Simulation Instruction offered by the International
Academy for Clinical Simulation & Research.
