Coach Pete PenaBill Hamilton enters his 26th year of coaching, 23rd as Head Coach with the last 19 for Pensacola Junior College. In his first 19 seasons at the helm he has recorded a record of 591 – 370 in one of the toughest Junior College Conferences, and States, in the Country. His overall record now stands at 675 wins and 446 losses.

In 2004, he led the Pirates to their 1st ever State Championship and a 6th Place finish in the JUCO World Series while also capturing the Tomas Howard Sportsmanship Trophy. For his efforts, he was named the FCCAA Coach of the Year, NJCAA Region VIII Coach of the Year and the ABCA/Diamond Regional Coach of the Year for NJCAA Division I. The Pirates also have finished Runner Up (2002) and have a 4th and two 5th Place finishes to their credit.

In 2008, Coach Hamilton passed retired legendary Coach Buddy Kisner as the “All-Time Career Leader” in wins at PJC when he notched his 525th career win earlier in the season. He finished the year with 561 as the Pirates rolled to a 43 and 8 record, a Conference Championship and a NJCAA National Poll #1 Ranking for the last 6 weeks of the poll. It was Pensacola JC’s first ever #1 Ranking in their 60 year history. The school record for wins was a feat that Coach Hamilton has accomplished 4 times in his career.

The Dean of Coaches in the Panhandle Conference, Hamilton was the Baseball Conference Chairman and a member of the State Baseball Committee from 1992 – 2002. He also sat as a member in the FCCAA/NJCAA District Baseball Tournament Committee and the NJCAA All-District Selection Committee during that 11 year span. His leadership has played a key role in the success of the Panhandle Conference and FCCAA Baseball.

Hamilton, who also has 14 years experience as an associate scout with the Cleveland Indians, Texas Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks has seen over 60 former players drafted/join the professional ranks but is most proud of the fact that over 175 of those former players have had the opportunity to continue their baseball and educational careers at 4 year colleges and universities.

Before beginning his head coaching career, Hamilton was an assistant at Chipola College in 1984-5, helping them to a state playoff berth in 1985 and served as an assistant coach at Columbus State University (GA) from 1985 to 1987. While serving there in the capacity of pitching coach and recruiter, he helped the Cougars to two NCAA Division II World Series appearances, finishing runner-up in 1986 and fourth in 1987.

Prior to PJC, he guided North Florida Junior College, in Madison,  for 3 years, 1987-1990, and was named Director of Athletics there in 1989.

On January 20, 2000, Hamilton was appointed to the Director of Athletics post at Pensacola Junior College. In addition to his coaching duties, he now oversees Men and Women’s Basketball, Softball, Volleyball, Baseball, Cheerleaders, Dance Team and Intramurals along with the Aquatics and Life Fitness Centers. Since that appointment, he has played a prominent role in, the renovation of the Life Fitness and Aquatic Centers and the Free Weight Room, a $3.5 million total gym makeover, a $750,000 Baseball Stadium remodeling with an indoor hitting facility and the design and construction of a new $1.2 million softball stadium.

An experienced clinician and speaker with over 150 appearances to his credit, including the prestigious ABCA, Coach Hamilton has also recently added International Coaching to his resume` with trips to Puerto Rico and the Roberto Clemente Foundation, Australia, Europe and most recently, the Bahamas, where he was one of two featured speakers for the Bahamas Baseball Federation at various clinics over a 9 day period, in 2007. In Australia, his team of USA All-Stars captured the Adelaide Friendship Series with a record of 7-1-1 and his International record now stands at an outstanding 16-4-1.

Born in Lake City, Hamilton grew up in Marianna, Florida. A 2001 Leadership Pensacola Graduate, he received a Bachelors Degree from Huntingdon College in 1982 and has served on Huntingdon’s Board of Trustees. He received his Masters Degree in Administration and Supervision from Columbus State University in 1987. He is married to the former Cathy Ensley of Asheville, North Carolina and has a daughter Lindsay, 25 .
