Behavioral Sciences

Welcome to the Behavioral Sciences Department

In the Department of Behavioral Sciences students are immersed in subjects about the thinking and actions of human beings—as individuals, groups, organizations, and societies. Opportunities abound to study the emergence and progression of human civilization from ancient through modern times. Students are exposed to a broad range of concepts about human capacities for learning, growing, and changing. Individual and group actions influence cultural norms and the structure of societies. In turn, societal systems and institutions influence the everyday actions of groups and individuals. In the courses offered in the Department of Behavioral Sciences students have opportunities to learn how their everyday behaviors impact and are impacted by the world around them.

Degree areas within the department include Human Performance & Recreation, Psychology, and Social Sciences (including Anthropology, Social Work, and Sociology).

Want to explore the human mind, group behavior, and cultural diversity? Maybe you have a growing interest in human exercise and physical performance, individual and community health status, or the role of recreation in today’s society. If the investigation of human cultures and societies, past or present, appeals to you, then Behavioral Sciences is the place for you to be!
