ANNA LAMAR SWITZER Born September 11, 1900, Anna Ashley Lamar Switzer approached each day with enthusiasm, bathed them in appreciation, and filled them with accomplishment. She loved the Navy and cherished her Pensacola heritage and worked to preserve its history. Anna believed so strongly in education that as a young girl she would leave Pensacola to attend classes in Georgia and New Jersey. Because of her enthusiasm for Pensacola and education, she invested her time and talents to ensure that Pensacola could offer quality programs for those who choose to live here, raise their families here, and return as retirees. She was an artist and published author who believed in honing skills. It was important to Mrs. Switzer that Pensacola Junior College now exists for anyone wanting to learn and grow without leaving the community. Pensacola Junior College is honored to have the opportunity to strengthen and enhance the college with an arts-centered facility in her name and is proud to be a part of her continuing legacy to the community she so loved. |
